Wine Review: Dancing Bull Zinfandel

Here’s something we haven’t done yet: review wine. It’s been in my plans for a while, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. It makes sense since it’s grape related, right?

Our first foray into wine reviews takes a look at Dancing Bull Zinfandel. Not to be confused with white zinfandel. Big difference. Anyway, let’s first look at what a wine site has to say about this wine. From WineBuyer.com:

“Dancing Bull is the lighter side of Rancho Zabaco—brighter, more irreverent, and playfully zinful.”

Like you, I’m not really sure what “irreverent” tastes like. I have visions of college age hippie wannabe’s wearing Che Guevara t-shirts, which DEFINITELY doesn’t sound appealing to me. Since I already bought the wine I figured, what the hell, and served with BBQ ribs, grilled sausage, chicken, etc…

After piling my plate with BBQ goodness, I poured myself a glass, sat down and dug in. My first impression wasn’t one of irreverence, jocularity, or fecundity but, rather, harshness. It was like a bottle full of liquid pugilists set upon my taste buds with a hint of rabid racoons after they spent a few hours trash wrestling. Maybe even a little Phish concert floor scrapings on the finish.

I set the glass aside and swished around some water and attacked some ribs. After a dozen minutes (and a dozen ribs) or so, I went back to the wine.

Much better. After airing, decanting, whatever you want to call it, the wine sang. The hippies were gone, the acidity and alcohol, which overwhelmed right out of the bottle, softened and the dark berries/fruit came to the fore. It tasted like wine, and a good wine at that.

All in all, I recommend. A solid 3.97 grapes.

Memorial Day Weekend!

Many of us enjoy golf, BBQ’s, and time with family over long Memorial Day weekends. However, try and spend a few moments remembering what Memorial Day is all about; honoring those in the military that lost their lives while protecting our country and our freedom. Those in the military serve so we can continue to eat cheeseburgers, drink beer, say whatever we want, have skeletons and other undead in our video games, and have websites devoted to plated grapes.

If there’s one weekend you should watch the History Chanel, this is it.
