Off the Plate: I’ve Been Wanting to Post This for Over a Decade

Flash back to the ’90’s… Flannel, grunge, stained dresses, yada, yada, yada, etc… The State of Maine was, I think, trying to curb underage tobacco use… or maybe they were secretly trying to encourage it? Here’s the ad campaign they launched with signs at retail outlets, ads, etc…

So, the State of Maine is saying, “No Blocking Underage Tobacco Sales for Kids Here.” Hey, that’s great. This is a classic case of acronym backassery. Rather than come up with a slogan and creating a clever acronym (like the ever annoying NORAD… seriously, that’s a stretch), they came up with the acronym and had some rad-tards (older marketing types that think they understand kids… my own Sniglet) come up with the words that make up said acronym.

If you’re interested, you can check out the state’s page here.
