Trivia: Pumpernickel

If there is one thing I’m known for, even more so than having a website about grapes on plates, it’s odd, obscure facts and trivia. Here’s an interesting one I learned the other day about one of my least favorite bread, pumpernickel.

Apparently the Germans, who were first to bake the coarse, rye based bread, didn’t much like it. “Pumpern” is German for fart, and “nickel” is German for goblin. So the Germans likened it to eating goblin farts.

Yummy.

No word yet on what it would taste like if cooked in a Dutch oven…

Awesome Statue

Since it’s so awesome, many of you have likely seen this photo elsewhere. For those of you who haven’t, here it is:

Destroyer of Babies

This Norwegian statue, which I believe is called Nine baby arms, is why guys generally don’t run day care facilities.

Here’s an unedited picture of a lizard eating…

…Bacon? Yes, even lizards know the awesomeness of bacon. How, you ask, do I know this is actually bacon? Because I fed it to him. Before you curse my name for wasting bacon, I’ll have you know it was an all you can eat buffet, so I still got to eat a pound or so before tossing a few scraps to this lucky beast.

Now he tastes like chicken stuffed with bacon

License Plate

I was perusing my somewhat sizable image archive the other day and I came across this photo I took a few years back while waiting at a light:

This spooge is for you

He really pulled one over on the folks at the DMV. This guy’s laughing all the way to the bank (I’ll let you figure out what bank he’s going to).
